First class, airport lounges and Madrid, oh my!

Kate and I started off our marathon adventure in style...they upgraded us to first class on our flight from Boston to Madrid. So we spent a blissful 6 and a half hours drinking Spanish wine (with perhaps a nightcap or two thrown in), playing with our seat controls (they go all the way down!) and watching movies.

We also had some terrifying moments reading through some marathon books. There is this thing, called THE WALL. We haven´t met THE WALL, yet. But the books say that a lot of runners don´t encounter THE WALL until the day of the marathon (and some runners never do). Please god, I don´t wanna meet THE WALL. Perhaps that is what the wine is for.

The weekend leading up to our departure was pretty anxiety filled. I wasn´t prepared for the nervous anxiety that manifested in pretty much everything I did this weekend: packing, making plans to meet up with people, deciding on a movie to watch. All these rather simple things reduced me to a neurotic mess.

I AM GOING TO RUN A MARATHON IN 4 DAYS. And I have no idea what to expect. Overall, I am pretty friggen excited. That means I am still in the denial stage. Which means I still have:

ANGER: Why the HELL did I decide to do this!?!' Why oh why!?!?
BARGAINING: Ok, I can just run the first half (a half-marathon is still pretty impressive, after all) and just walk and enjoy the second half drinking wine...
DEPRESSION (or Hello Mile 9): Oh god, I just can´t go one step further
ACCEPTANCE: Well, I´ve come this far, I might as well just finish the race

We arrive in France tonight to continue our wine drinking (hey- it´s part of the training) and carb-loading. For once, I am going to eat a whole lotta French bread and feel really really good about it!!!

You are going to rock this marathon like a hurricane. And imagine me there mispronouncing all the French words and laughing with a jug of wine at the end of the race for you! Can't wait to hear about it. Love you and miss you a ton!!!!
